Course Description: This class will focus on the topic of Phonemic Awareness. We will develop a working definition of phonemic awareness and how these skills are essential building blocks for later success in reading. We will explore strategies to grow these skills through stories, rhymes & songs, and games. During each session we will work in small groups to create materials for classroom use and examine picture books that promote phonemic awareness. There will be a small project to be completed in between the two sessions, which will then be shared during the second session.
